We started our day by watching a quick video that featured Prime Minister Justin Trudeau working with students in Ottawa on the Hour of Code! Students were excited to see our prime minister doing the same thing they did, and had some advice for him after seeing him use Minecraft!
Today we started a new math inquiry. Students were given a challenge - build the tallest free standing structure possible using four sheets of newspaper, one metre of tape, 50 centimeters of string, 2 paperclips and 30 centimeters of pipe cleaner. Students were engaged with trying new ideas, discussing plans with their partners and working with the materials. We discussed what worked and what we can change for next time, and how feeling frustration today is okay! Students will be given the opportunity to try this challenge again on Thursday! Ask your student what they felt went well, and how they can change their structure on Thursday.
This afternoon our buddies stopped by and we all made paper snowflakes to decorate the classrooms. Next week we will continue with the snowflakes and use those patterns for another art project.
Have a wonderful evening!
