What an amazing morning! We were lucky to have Jenny visit our class. She is a geologist who came to explore different kinds of rocks and minerals with the grade threes. Students built their own conglomerate rocks (they are currently drying in the classroom and will be sent home later this week), and went drilling for oil! Jenny had many different samples that students got to handle, including quartz and amethyst. It was a wonderful presentation and students were very excited to meet someone who works with rocks and minerals daily!
This afternoon we went into Iris to continue our Earth writing. Last week students crafted their own multi-layered Earth's out of plasticine. This week students finished posting a picture of the product on Iris, then wrote a paragraph describing what they learned and a variety of facts about the Earth's layers. Take a look!
Stephen’s Backpacks!
It is that time of year again to start going through your child's toys and books. The grade 1s will be hosting a TOY AND BOOK SALE to support Stephen's Backpack Society on November 24, 2016 for the entire day. Please send in any gently used toys and/or books starting on November 21. We will also accept cash donations. All of the money raised this year will be used to purchase backpacks filled with items like books, toothbrushes, and toys for children that live on the streets in Calgary. For more information about this program please go to the Stephen's Backpack Society at http://www.stephensbackpacks.com.
Have a wonderful evening!
