Whoa! Where did that snow come from?!
This morning we continued coding by discussing algorithms. An algorithm is a series of steps that can be followed to do a job. Students made an algorithm to tell a classmate how to fold a paper plane. There were 6 steps to the algorithm. Ask your student whether it would be easier or harder if there was one step? What about forty?
We also continued our Genius Hour project. To begin our research, students chose two or three keywords (the most important words in our question) and then used resources from LearnAlberta (such as PebbleGo and National Geographic for Kids) to begin looking for answers. We will be continuing our research next week.
I know that I forgot to mention this in class today, but as Halloween is Monday, I would like to remind that it is still a learning day. Students are more than welcome to wear their costumes, but it is not a requirement. For part of the afternoon, we will have a celebration of learning. During this time there will be some snacks. Being that students will be filled with sugar later on in the afternoon or evening, and keeping in mind that we have several severe allergies in room 81, I am asking for commercially prepared fruit or vegetable trays.
If you would like to provide one for the class, please comment below in the blog.
If you have any questions about this, please feel free to email me.
Have a wonderful time at the Howl and over the weekend!
