Happy Hour of Code Day! This week students of all ages across North America will be using computers to learn code! We watched a short video explaining how programming is quickly becoming an important skill, like reading and writing. This skill can be applied in many different contexts, from fashion and medicine to computer animation. This afternoon students had the opportunity to apply their problem-solving skills to a variety of different coding games (including Make Your Own Flappy Bird, and Code Your Own Minecraft!) using code.org/learn. Students applied previously learned skills in a new way, and were exposed to new coding languages (such as Scratch and JavaScript). Ask your student what their favourite part of coding was, how they persisted through challenges, and what problems they solved.
This morning students continued to use their story plan to write their stories. We also developed a rubric to assist them with what to include while writing. This will be the same rubric used to assess their stories when complete.
Quick reminder to send in any skating forms you have by Friday! Thank you!
Have a wonderful evening,
- Ms. Bell
