Fractions can be challenging.
This morning we reviewed what is a fraction and what each part represents. We rolled dice to create fractions, emphasizing the importance of equal parts. Then the challenge came. Student worked in partners rolling a dice, creating 2 fractions and determining which fraction was bigger. This was very interesting! We will continue to work on this next week.
During our writing this afternoon, we discussed the difference between criteria and a continum. Using our facts from our "Who would win", and criteria we created as a class, students worked in groups to make a 1,2,3 and 4. Each of the pieces of writing had to meet the criteria. This brought on a discussion about how a piece of writing may have all the components, but it is quite basic. It was eye opening for many to see how they can extend and add more description or word choice to enhance their writing. We will be finishing them tomorrow.
In Social Studies, we watched a video about life on a farm. While watching, students were looking for the similiarities and differences between life on Peru and life in Canada. Ask them what they were most surprised by.
Field trip forms are due January 9.
Have a wonderful evening!
