It's October already?!
I was reminded by a student that today was the 3rd and not the 2nd today. Time is passing so quickly!
This morning in literacy we identified what Genre is. We sorted and categorized our books into fiction and nonfiction, followed by realistic fiction and imaginary. We analyzed what are some features that you will only find in nonfiction and the same for fiction. We then applied our understanding of "hooking the reader" and read the beginnings of several fiction writing samples. Tomorrow we will be taking those beginnings and making them interesting and exciting for all to read, versus "shut the book".
In math, students were shown 3 strategies they can use when adding 2 and 3 digit numbers. They then chose two of the strategies to assist them in solving questions. It was a bit of an adjustment to recognize the importance of understanding different strategies to get the same outcome. Please ask your child about "make and break" and base ten strategies.
Have a wonderful evening!

Question of the day: Which strategy do you prefer to use and why?
