The students continued their learning around expanded notation in mathematics by battling the 'bosses' they've created. I am satisfied at this point that everyone understands how to move numbers from the 10s place to the hundreds, so I am going to be teaching them more efficient strategies in addition... They'll need to be prepared, they're battling the third boss today!
Yesterday the students began looking at rocks and minerals. Each table was given a number of rocks and were asked to sort them into two piles based on different attributes. The students chose to sort them based on color, texture, size, and 'little rocks in the big rocks', among others. Today the students examined the layers of the Earth through an interactive SMART Board application and a video.
Tomorrow will be very exciting as the students model the Earth and describe the contents of each layer.
