The students evaluated their work today, based on the pre-established criteria that we came up with as a class. Afterwards, they set goals for their next go-around. For example, some students shared:
"I can describe how the problem changed the character from the beginning to the end."
"I can use choose better quotes that show when major changes happen in the story."
We are going to be beginning a new book shortly, and will review this assessment throughout in order to improve the depth of the journal pages.
The students reviewed 3 strategies for solving subtraction problems with borrowing. They used base-10 blocks to build numbers, then took numbers away; they wrote the numbers in expanded notation and borrowed appropriately; and they used the traditional algorithm. They will be using this understanding for a number of projects in the very near future.
Tomorrow, the students are going to have their spelling test, and upload an artifact to IRIS (the journal page mentioned above).
Reminders:
1. Students went home today with their fieldtrip forms for the Bell Music Centre. Please bring them back ASAP.
2. Students also went home with a scholastic order. Please have that back by Friday of next week.
3. Please return the report card envelopes so we can reuse them later in the year.
