Learning had to be extra engaging today, seeing as Halloween fell on a Monday! Today, we started our new class book: The Map Trap. To engage the students, they walked around the classroom and looked at the maps that were donated. What makes a good map? Why do we use maps? What are some different types of maps? It is amazing how imaginative grade 3s can be. I feel like they were actually transported to Disneyland, to the New York, to the Calgary Zoo.
We further examined the concept of mapping by coding a haunted house for our pet robot, Mona Lisa. Students matched the given criteria to the task at hand. The purpose was to work with students on reflection and determining their next steps. Plus we coded and had fun!
Tomorrow we will continue this integrated look at mapping by developing maps of our own and hiding geocaches around our school. This is our first attempt... So we'll see how it goes! Our plan is to do this a couple of times and then invite classes to find our Geocaches.
Reminders:
1. Pictures MUST be in by Tuesday.
2. Scholastic orders are going out on Friday this week. Any orders should be sent in as soon as possible.
3. Remembrance Day is just around the corner, and our class is presenting! Please be sure to have your child practice at home.
Have an excellent day! Scroll down for pictures of our haunted maps.
