If you had 24 snacks, and shared them with 6 people, how many would each person get? What if you had 27 markers, and you were sharing them with 5 tables... What then??
The students have begun looking at division. They are looking at it through a variety of metaphors including sharing things, breaking into rows and columns, using a number line, and dividing time.
In Science, the students completed two very important tasks. The first was to create a form of materials and adhesives where they described the characteristics of each to help them determine which ones they could use in certain situations. The second thing they did was to set up for the experiment for tomorrow, but creating pillars of different shapes. For example, they made cylindrical pillar, a rectangular prism, and a triangular prism. Tomorrow we'll destroy them!
(Ask your child about a 'fair test'. Prompt them by discussing how much tape we used, and why we did not use recycled paper for this).
Reminders:
1.We are skating tomorrow! There are two students who did not bring back forms, please have them back tomorrow morning. Also, to the parent volunteers, I need your forms in by tomorrow as well.
2. Please bring: Skates, helmet, gloves, and a long-sleeved shirt.
Have a great night!
