Jellyfish are gross. Seriously. Gross, but so, so cool! Can you believe that they have developed a way to turn a glowing green? That they deliver punches as powerful as 550 Mike Tysons? That they have been around since before the dinosaurs?
As we continue our exploration into survival and extinction, students are learning about adaptations that allow a species to continue. Jellyfish are one of many examples we will be exploring. In fact, some of the most fantastic adaptations can be found in our backyard. Take, for example, a brutal, ruthless insectivore that lives in our backyards, gobbling up unsuspecting aphids: The Ladybug. How have the life-cycles of these animals perfectly evolved to meet their growing needs?
A non-fiction paragraph needs specific and appropriately chosen strategies to draw the reader in. Today, the students began studying 4 different strategies for building topic sentences:
1. If... Then
2. Since...
3. Even though...
4. When...
There will be much more information about these shortly!
Tomorrow we'll continue learning about National Geographic Magazines as the students develop criteria for a successful paragraph. They'll also keep learning about telling time on an analog clock.
Reminders:
1. Field trip to the Bow Habitat on Monday - We have 3 volunteers, so we are all good!
2. Spelling test will take place this Friday. The words have been posted on Monday's blog entry.
