The students spent some time today thinking about their best work, and work they want to improve. They leafed through their visual journals, reflecting on their learning and write sentences on sticky notes that explained their successes and areas for improvement. Afterwards, we used began thinking about what could be included in our visual journal reflections on class stories. The students made groups and cycled through each of the posters (below). This will develop into criteria for our next attempt at visually journaling.
The students also read a story today called The Golden Rule. In this story the main character learns about empathy. This lesson will be reiterated throughout all of our problem solving and social programs throughout the year.
Tomorrow will be a busy day as we use our new criteria (based on the ideas below) to determine our next steps in our visual journal entries about The Map Trap.
Reminders and updates:
1. Steven's Backpack is on Thursday. Please bring some money to purchase books and toys. The proceeds go to a good cause.
Here is a note from the grade 1 team (organizers of Steven's Backpack):
Students will have time to shop with their class during the day on Thursday. Students may bring in their money to buy items or they can make a donation if they would like. The items are usually between $1-5 each and the sale will be in the learning commons this year.
2. We have two people who can volunteer, and we're still looking for more!
3. No school on Friday.
All the best!
Mr. MacKenzie
