My apologies for putting this out on Friday morning instead of Thursday night! We're busy here going through assessments, reflecting on learning, and building new projects for the students to engage in.
Yesterday the students learned a strategy for pulling out the important information called 'The Incredible Shrinking Notes!' For this task, the students were given information to go through and a large space to write all of their notes in. Afterwards, we're going to seek out the vital information and write it in a smaller box. The students will do this, yet again, and write all of their learning into a very small box.
The students also spent some time 'understanding themselves as learners' with Mrs. Smith. They have discussed what they need and what works or doesn't work for learning in their current environment. Some of them have uploaded some learning about this on to their IRIS accounts.
Next week will be extremely busy. The students are going to continue learning about the Rock Cycle in our learning about Rocks and Minerals. At this point they have created a rock, crafted the Earth (and cut it apart!), and had a special presentation that introduced them to igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks.
Have a great weekend! I hear we might get the perfect snow...
Mr. MacKenzie
