Where do we start? The students constructed their holes today! They had to create the rough boundary using a quadrilateral or a pentagon, their fairway with an octagon or a decagon, and their starting spaces with a triangle. Next week we'll begin data collection though analyzing how far sample students from each grade can throw the two types of frisbees available. We'll also connect this learning to measurement (millimeters, centimeters, meters, and kilometers) as the students measure the perimeter of each shape and the relative distance of their holes. This is a big project, but the kids haven't stopped talking about it all day..
Next week, too, we'll be beginning an author study of Chris Van Alsberg (of Jumanji fame). Throughout this study, we'll be looking at how the brain behaves while we read, and what type of thinking strategies work best for comprehension.
Reminders:
1. Pictures are due tomorrow
2. Monday is the big day at Fish Creek, 4-6
3. Our ALS Walk is coming up on June 1st, and there is a special presentation at the school if you would like to come. Please read yesterdays blog for additional information.
Have an excellent night!
