What opportunities does the environment give that improve your quality of life? The students had outstanding discussions throughout the afternoon, connecting needs and wants to the environment. They were quick to relate fresh air, family outings (camping), recreation, and other activities/resources that add to their quality of life. Afterwards, the students looked at their previous work and sorted their needs and wants from most important to least important. Each table's learning can be found below.
During Guided Reading, each group spent time with me discussing the books that they have chosen. Each group is learning different topics, based on their learning needs. For example, one group is learning about sequence of stories, others are looking at the author's purpose.
Tomorrow the students are going to complete their 'quality of life' web that they began today.
Reminders:
1. There is no school on Friday.
2. Our students will be going down to buy toys and books on Thursday for Steven's Backpack. If your child has some money to bring that day the proceeds will go to a good cause.
Here is a note from the grade 1 team:
Stephen’s Backpacks!
It is that time of year again to start going through your child's toys and books. The grade 1s will be hosting a TOY AND BOOK SALE to support Stephen's Backpack Society on November 24, 2016 for the entire day. Please send in any gently used toys and/or books starting on November 21. We will also accept cash donations. All of the money raised this year will be used to purchase backpacks filled with items like books, toothbrushes, and toys for children that live on the streets in Calgary. For more information about this program please go to the Stephen's Backpack Society at http://www.stephensbackpacks.com.
