What is the best 3D shape for a pillar? Which will hold the most weight and why?
Those were the two questions posed to the students at the start of our science lesson. It brought along a lot of discussion of 3D shapes. Students made their hypothesis and build their pillars. We will be testing them tomorrow to determine which is the best shape.
A question that came up in our discussion was:
Is a cube a rectangular prism? How do you know? Is a rectangular prism a cube?
Our focus this week in math will be problem solving. Many times we have an understanding of computations, but when put in a problem solving context it can be a bit confusing. This week we are looking at different clues or strategies to help us understand the question and apply different ways to solve it.
Reminders:
Tomorrow is wear Pink Shirt Day.
Thursday is special Lunch day.
Our make up for skating is March 2
Our Fish Creek Field trip is March 16.
Have a wonderful day!
