Math is everywhere! We chatted this morning about how we use math. Often times it is with 3 digit numbers but other times isn't. This morning we worked on developing our mental math skills. This included, doubling, double plus one and make ten. Students worked with a partner, tracked their data of the correct response they could do in one minute, each time trying to improve upon their previous score. At the end, some students wanted to challenge the teacher.
In the afternoon, students were shown their next steps of writing their stories. We had a mini lesson about how an ending of a story doesn't just conclude with the end, but rather a lesson or memory. We are now working on our stories rough drafts.
We finished our day with alphabetizing. Our classroom library was in dire need of organization! As a group we talked about the best way to organize ourselves to get the job done in a calm and quick way. We then put our plan into action! Before we knew it we had piles of books in their alphabetical order and the bell rang. Tomorrow we will be finishing up. Ask your child why we alphabetize and how we do it.
Have a wonderful evening!
