In celebration of the 150th birthday of Canada, we have been doing an inquiry project on Fish Creek Park this year. To conclude the project, we began our artist in residences project. Students every day have been working on 4 panels of animals which are made of glass tiles.
Yesterday, students received and overview of how the process works. Today it was FABRICATION day. Students got put into groups and began laying out tile pieces and gluing. Some even had the opportunity to cut tile pieces. They are coming along wonderfully! We will be working on them everyday for the next two weeks.
This morning we continued work on our number line. Some preconceptions we had earlier was that a number line only has whole numbers. Today we looked at decimals and examined our question. By the end we all agreed:
- 0.3 is greater than 0 zero.
- zero is not always the first number on the number line. There are numbers such as negative numbers.
- it's important to look at the place value of the digits because 0.5 , 0.05 and 5.0 are not the same value.
Have a wonderful evening!
