AWhat a rockin' day!
This morning we had an expert come into our classroom. A parent from Evergreen school came and provided us with her expertise on Geology. We learned how minerals are identified, how to make a sedimentary rock and how oil is related to rocks and minerals. Ask your child their highlight of the presentation.
In the afternoon we continued our rock study by creating a 3-Dimensional creation of the Earth's layers. Tomorrow we will be making our display to go along with them.
We have been focusing on creating greater detail in our writing. Students were given several sentence starters and pictures to assist them in writing an elaborative setting. They turned out amazing!
Please read Friday's blog about volunteers needed for our upcoming field trips.
A message from the Grade Ones:
Stephen’s Backpacks!
It is that time of year again to start going through your child's toys and books. The grade 1s will be hosting a TOY AND BOOK SALE to support Stephen's Backpack Society on November 24, 2016 for the entire day. Please send in any gently used toys and/or books starting on November 21. We will also accept cash donations. All of the money raised this year will be used to purchase backpacks filled with items like books, toothbrushes, and toys for children that live on the streets in Calgary. For more information about this program please go to the Stephen's Backpack Society at http://www.stephensbackpacks.com.
Thanks.
