We completed out last piece of persuasive writing today. Students worked in partners to share their piece of writing, receive feedback on criteria and continuum of their next steps. They then took the feedback and created their final piece. We reflected upon our growth. We start at different points and end at different points, but the important thing is growth. After finishing our lesson, I showed the students a writing continuum. I explained to them that the one we have as a class is not the very beginning. I showed them what writing happens before. It's like a number line.
We began our preparation for our upcoming field trip to Fish Creek Park. We brainstormed various things we do and some possible issues that may come up as a result. For example, many use Fish Creek Park for biking. A possible issue is how many go off the path and are destroying the habitat.
In math, we used our mental math skills to determine 10, 100, 1000 and 10 000.
Students were given different dice. They rolled it and were required to find its pair to make either 10, 100, 1000 or 10 000. Someone came up with a great strategy! If you're trying to find out 40 + ___ = 100, just think of it as 4 + __ = 10 then change the place value. This is wonderful thinking!
I sent home the skating forms. Please note the time students will be returning back to school.
Have a great evening!
