This afternoon we had the opportunity to watch the Grade One Film Festival. The grade ones had been studying fairy tales and prepared movies about their knowledge. Students enjoyed the films, especially the behind the scenes clips! Afterwards we enjoyed going outside for gym with Mrs. Rowarth and playing in the sun! We are very excited about our upcoming trip to Heritage Park. As a reminder, the bus will leave Evergreen at 9 and will be leaving Heritage Park at 2. If your child has a pass to Heritage Park, please have your child bring it to school on Wednesday morning and we will photocopy it before we go. This will save our school money. The Evergreen Ringers also performed at the wonderful volunteer tea today. Thank you to all those who have been so helpful throughout this school year, and congratulations to our students who performed and helped serve at the tea. Reminders! Next week is our last full week of school. Monday June 27th is a half day. Wednesday June 22 is our Heritage park field trip. Have a wonderful weekend! - Ms. Bell Today we continued to work on our graphic novels. To get us thinking about dialogue students took a Calvin and Hobbes comic and had to fill in what they thought would be said. The revised comics are pretty funny! Students then began to work very seriously on their novels. They have now placed in their panels, varying the shape, size and number on each page. Some students have started their illustrations and adding text to each page. The novels are looking wonderful! In math we continued our rotations and also took a look at another popular number puzzle - sudoku! Students used 4x4 grids and used logic and problem solving skills to fill in the correct numbers. Ask your student what they thought was the most difficult part and what was the best part of completing the sudoku! This afternoon we had the opportunity to go and watch the Kindergarteners in their first ever solo performance! It was a wonderful way to end our day! Have a wonderful evening, - Ms. Bell Today we continued working on our social studies projects. Students are wrapping up large portions of their writing, and are adding final touches and pictures! We also began a study of plants and flowers by choosing a flower and starting a diary for that flower. Ask your student which one they chose and why. In math we used problem solving strategies to work on a puzzle! The goal is to put the numbers 1-8 in the boxes, but no consecutive numbers can be touching. Ask your student if this puzzle was difficult and what strategies they used. We also worked in math stations that are reviewing multiplication and division questions. In the afternoon we also continued on our Ma Famille books. Students learned the names of some events we celebrate with our family, and were asked to bring back to class two more events (for example, Christmas, Easter, Hannukah, Halloween, etc.) in French. This would be wonderful to have by Wednesday! Have a wonderful evening! - Ms. Bell What an end to our week! A big congratulations to all of our wonderful performers this week! The musical was a wonderful success, and I am very impressed by all of the effort the students put in learning all of the songs and dances! Amazing!
Today we continued to research our Alberta event. We are asking in particular what effect the event had on Alberta, and how did it change our province. Please talk to your student and find out what they think! We also continued to progress on our French Ma Famille books. Students are currently adding their favourite things to do with their families, ask your student what they have written! Have a wonderful weekend! - Ms. Bell We had another busy and exciting day! We were able to spend part of our morning visiting Woodman Middle School. When we arrived we were greeted by grade 5 students who welcomed us into their classrooms for a few short activities, and gave us a short tour. We discovered that in grade 5 we get to take all 6 options - music, tech ed., french, art, drama and foods. Students will also all participate in gym, and we get gym uniforms ("gym strip") to wear. Students will also get two lockers - one for school supplies and coats, near the classrooms, and a gym locker for gym strip. Ask your student about their favourite part of the visit!
This afternoon we continued our Alberta research, and had a rehearsal for "A Kid's Life" show tomorrow! Students will meet at 6:10pm in our classroom Wednesday evening for our evening performance. We are performing twice tomorrow - at 1:30 pm and at 6:30 pm. We are really excited to share this with you! Have a wonderful evening! - Ms. Bell We have had a busy day! This afternoon we had a special visitor from the S4 Police officer. We discussed what roles we have in our communities, and what kind of footprint we would like to leave behind. Ask your student what qualities they would like to demonstrate in their footprint (for example, role model, helpful, honest, teamwork, responsible, etc.). Tomorrow is Ride Your Bike to School Day. You need to bring a lock and lock your bike along the school fence. Please label all bikes and helmets with first and last name so they are easily identified. The grade fours at Bridlewood Elementary came and shared their digital stories with us, and we shared the work we have been doing on bike stations with them. This afternoon we had our last bike station session! Students have been working hard on taking apart bikes, finding the simple machines, and experimenting with changing tires. Ask your student which was their favourite station and why.
