Dear Families,
Welcome back!
We are very excited about the upcoming school year! We hope that everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable summer. We spent some time this summer working with other teachers and professionals designing learning tasks and connecting with professionals that can support our work within the classroom. We are really looking forward to seeing everyone and hearing about all of their adventures from the summer!
We have a wonderful and unique opportunity to really develop our students’ thinking and help them grow as learners. This year our classroom will have two teachers who will collaborate on designing projects, working with students,, and building the classroom environment. Each of us has written a quick note so that you, as parents and guardians, have a deeper sense of who we are and what we value in education.
Ashley Frampton
Hi Everyone! I am excited to begin my first year at Evergreen school as a team teacher with Mr. MacKenzie in grade 4. Since 2009 I have taught grades 2-6 at Ramsay School in the heart of downtown Calgary and am looking forward to a new journey at Evergreen school. I am originally from Nova Scotia, and enjoy reading, cooking, travelling and spending time with my husband and two-year old daughter. I am also currently working on my Masters of Education through the University of Calgary. Many of my philosophical beliefs about teaching lie within the Reggio Emilia Philosophy of teaching, especially in creating environments that foster learning, making learning visible, valuing the student as a co-constructor of knowledge, and engaging with families. I believe that personalized, intellectually engaging and relevant learning experiences foster academic achievement. I look forward to meeting you and working with your child this year!

I am looking forward to reconnecting with the class of last year, as well as getting to know a few new learners as we walk into our room on September 1st! I have spent this summer gaining a deeper understanding in reaching all students. Knowing so many of you from last year means that we can really ‘hit the ground running’ and immediately dive into learning.
For those of you who are new to the school, I have been in the teaching profession for nearly 10 years in Korea, Vancouver, and Calgary. I’ve developed a penchant for projects that make students think, that challenge them to build something, and that require creativity and critical thinking. I can’t wait for this year to get started!
First Day
To ensure that the first day goes as smoothly as possible, we have a few recommendations. First, we recommend that you park further away and walk your child to school as we have 2 drop-off zones this year, and we expect it will be fairly congested on the first day. If you are using the drop-off zone, please remember it is a “Kiss and Drop” spot and that parking will not be permitted. If your child is taking the bus we have enclosed bus maps for both busses A and B.
On Tuesday, September 1st, students and parents can arrive at school between 7:45 and 8:00am and will find our new classrooms in the wing closest to the playground. We are in room 82. Students are encouraged to enter through the B doors as those will be their regular doors. Students will go straight to their classroom where we will collect information about before and after school care, bussing, and lunch.
We have attached a map of the school to help you find your child’s classroom. Regular school hours are from 8:00am to 2:45pm, Monday to Thursday and 8:00am to 11:15am on Fridays. Please set up a meeting place with your child on the compound as the grade 4 children will be entering and exiting through the B doors. In the event that you or your child are not at your meeting place, you will meet at the office.
On the first day of school students are encouraged to bring indoor shoes, a lunch kit, a healthy snack, a water bottle, and a willingness to learn! To guarantee that you will get all items back, parents are strongly encouraged to label all their child’s items. Please note that backpack labels should be on the inside, not the outside. Thanks in advance!
If you have any further questions, the Student Handbook is attached. We will also be continuing to update a blog with information about your child’s learning and important dates at www.teamevergreen.weebly.com.
Here is to an amazing year!
