Hello all,
The students are jumping into multiplication as a measurement of area. We've started an exploration into how much space each student gets within their classrooms, how much space other grades get, and how much space they should they get? This project will put them in a designer's shoes as they think about users of our school, users of other spaces, and requisite space for learning.
We finished The City of Ember today, which was bitter sweet. What an incredible story! This year we have been connecting the story to Light and Shadows, and we have been looking at the need to reduce consumption, as there are very limited resources in the Ember. The students watched the movie preview today, to compare how their viewed the characters, setting, objects and problems within the book to the movie version. I love it when kids get indignant because characters are different ages and sizes than they expected. Students even found some glaring changes in the story based on the 2 minute preview alone!
Reminders:
Tomorrow, students can dress up for school. They should not wear masks, use weapons, or wear scary halloween costumes.
Tomorrow we will be watching some of the City of Ember, and are still looking for some healthy snacks. If you would be willing to bring some tomorrow, please send an email or comment here.
There will be no school on Friday for Professional Development.
Question of the Day:
Use some scrap paper. How would you solve this problem:
234x5.
