Do to our continued, year-long effort to help the children with their self-regulation, we are not seeing as many behavioral issues during instruction. The students are really working on differentiated between "big problems" and "small problems". They are also learning to recognize how others are feeling and what their facial expressions are telling the world. Today we had the occupational therapist come in for a 4th lesson around self-regulation. The children are becoming adept at empathizing and recognizing who they are feeling.
Their characters in their stories seem to be constantly feeling nervous and worried about something! I suppose I'd be scared to if evil unicorns invaded our school or if I found myself suddenly floating in space. Students have been learning to use specific vocabulary and the actions of their characters to show, rather than tell, how they are feeling. Some of my favorite writing went into detail about a character who was "shaking and biting his nails", which is so much more interesting than a character who was "scared".
Upcoming Dates:
June 2 - Public library is coming in to talk to the students about the summer reading program.
June 2 - Bike to school day.
June 5 - Volunteer Tea
Question of the Day:
-What is something you "wonder" about when it comes to animal life cycles?
