We practiced building non-fiction paragraphs today through revisiting The Important Book. Although, the difference this time is that kids are not viewing it as poets, but as informational writers. They are learning to write clear topic sentences that describe what the upcoming paragraph is about. We'll continue practicing this and reinforcing it throughout literacy and social studies.
Our math and art projects are coming along beautifully! We'll get some pictures of their quadrilateral window art up on the site as soon as possible! When you talk to your child about it, they should be able to tell you that each shape is a quadrilateral, that each has a perimeter of 24, and they should be able to explain the lengths of the various sides.
Please, please, please RSVP for the literacy lunch tonight! We need to see how many parents can come. Just to recap, the literacy lunch is an opportunity for you and your child to celebrate literacy through a variety of activities throughout the school. You and your child will leave with word decoding skills and reading comprehension skills to supplement the reading that you are doing at home!
Also, we have sent home the health form for the Brier fieldtrip. Please have it filled out and returned ASAP so we can keep our paperwork in order!
Question of the Day:
What is important about the topic sentence in non-fiction writing? What is an example?
