Well, swimming is finished and we all agree it was a blast! They kids played hard, swam hard, laughed and learned valuable skills. It is unbelievable how much learning can happen in a single week of lessons.
We've been working on our lessons for our upcoming art project. The artists in residence will be coming to work with our kids on April 20th. We're going to be working together to create "Mixed Media Visual Journals" that represent elements of quality of life in the four countries we are studying (scroll down to see the samples). This should tie in very nicely with our work around Matisse and our discussions about composition and colors.
When we get back into the swing with writing (which was moved around because of swimming), we will continue our work with deconstructing stories. We will craft stories of our own. If you find yourself reading with your child over the weekend, or even if you are watching TV together, discussions about characters, setting, problems, and sequence of events will help supplement their learning in class. On Monday we will be adding some extra emphasis to creating beginnings that grab the readers' attention and that hook them into the story.
Question of the Day:
What is a situation where you might need to use division in the real world?
