In math they are coming up with dozens of animals. The challenge is complex and requires deep thinking and skills in perimeter, categorization, and visualizing.
Students have been tasked with creating their own zoo. Using 6 blocks, they create symbols for as many animals as possible. They then sort them on a grid to put them in the right 'cage'. For example, if the animal has a height of 3 and a perimeter of 14, they are categorized together. If the animal has a height of 2 and a perimeter of 12, they are categorized together. It sounds confusing, but the children are doing a great job! There is an example of a cat below, if you are interested.
For tomorrow we are excited to introduce the final rubric that the children created this afternoon for our social studies project, and we are thrilled to provide them with time to carry out their research.
