It is so hard for us to not put up the student artwork from this morning... We'll let the kids finish it though! These children are so perceptive. After creating their 3D cityscapes, students examined pictures of Tunisian architecture and applied those styles to their work. We will put them up on the this website immediately after they are finished!
Finishing tasks isn't as easy for some students as it is for others. Self control and self monitoring are critical skills for managing behaviors and completing work. The Calgary Police have a great set of resources designed to effectively reinforce students' strengths and to manage their emotions. We have been framing uncomfortable feelings as "Super Villains" that take over their brains. Today they began a series of lessons where they see their strengths for compassion, perseverance, generosity, and honesty (among others). as super powers. The next step will be to have them draw images of themselves as super heroes, where they celebrate their strengths.
Next week we are beginning a few new things, and it will be busy! We will be looking at perimeter as students are thrown into a number of critical challenges that involve creating, sorting, and managing shapes.
Have an outstanding weekend, enjoy the heat!
Question of the Day (This is a perimeter question, you're not expected to know this - so do your best!):
What is the perimeter of the shapes below?
