Developing questions for research purposes is always a tricky endeavor! How do we write questions that don't have yes/no answers? How do we form questions that have multiple answers and that make us think?
The students developed some questions today that they will use as catalysts into their research on reducing, reusing, recycling. To assist in the process of creating good questions, we are going to be looking at some pictures that are pretty disturbing, as well as some that are pretty interesting. We'll examine them on Tuesday using the "I See, I Think, I Wonder" structure that the students became familiarized with last year.
On another note, we're hoping to get the "Maker Hub" in our classroom set up for next week - but we've realized that we require some materials! If all students started to collect (and clean!) lids from juice containers, milk containers, pickle containers, and the like, we could build a collection of materials to build with. Also, if you have any extra electronics that kids could take apart (old computers, DVD players, sound systems, etc.) that you are willing to part with, could you please send them our way? There is a lot of learning to be had with taking stuff apart, re-imagining it as something else, and devising a new 'something'.
Upcoming Dates:
Tuesday, September 8 at 2:15 - The entire school will be selling coupon books as a fundraiser for opportunities to enhance student learning. Books will be going home on this day.
Reminders:
Any plastic/tin lids that you are done with can be washed and sent to school for an upcoming project.
Any left-over technology you are finished with can be used in our Maker Hub.
Question of the Day:
It's raining all weekend! What are some fun things to do in the rain?
