Building things is an actual curriculum area in Science! We wanted to observe problem solving skills, so we gave them a number of tasks to complete. For example, one group was tasked with making the tallest tower possible with Jenga bricks. Another developed a bridge to span a 20cm gap out of popsicle sticks. There were 10 tasks total, each was used to help us determine prior knowledge and to set directions and difficulty for upcoming projects.
Speaking of projects, we're in the process of evaluating the posters that the kids made. We are very impressed by their work ethic, their openness to feedback, and their eagerness to improve their work.
There is a lot for parents to know... Please read below:
Valentines Day
Kids love Valentines Day! We want to make sure that everyone feels welcome and appreciated this Valentines day. Please keep in mind the following expectations:
-We will be handing out valentines during a designated time on Wednesday, in the afternoon.
-If students choose to bring Valentines, we ask that they bring one for every student in the class (A class-list with first names was supposed to go home today, but it didn't print correctly, so it didn't go home. Sorry! We will send the list home tomorrow for last-minute Valentines!)
-If a student chooses not to participate in Valentines day, they do not need to make Valentines for everyone.
Brier
The entire school (minus kindergarten) has received free tickets to the Brier! We will be going on March 4th in need of 4 volunteers. If more than 4 people come forward, we'll do a draw for tickets.
Library Cards
Part of the CBE and Public Library initiative is that all students are given a free library card. In order for it to work they will need to register it online or at their local public library. They will also field any questions you have! This card will work with eBooks, as well.
Question of the Day:
Which science station was your favourite? Why?
